When Katrina Bookman visited a New York casino back in August, she never dreamed that she would experience the rollercoaster of emotions that followed after the slot machine she was playing on told her she had won a $42.9 million jackpot. Katrina even took a selfie in front of the slot machine at the Resorts World Casino in Queens, New York. The photo clearly showed the winning $42,949,672.76 jackpot on the slot machine screen behind her.
After Katrina reported her massive win, which was to be the biggest win at any slot machine in America, the entire building fell into chaos. Security personnel, staff members, and fellow players all gathered around the machine to celebrate with her on her epic windfall.
It was when staff members told her to come back tomorrow to hear the casino's verdict on her win, however, that Katrina's luck started to change.
When Katrina Bookman returned to the casino the next day, she was incredibly disappointed with the owner's decision. She was told that the machine had malfunctioned, since the total jackpot possible should be a mere $6,500. She was informed that she wouldn't be receiving any kind of prize - save for a steak dinner which was offered in lieu of the money.
However Katrina, who wanted to use her multi-million pound win to buy a barber shop for her son and give back to her community, is not taking no for an answer. She intends to sue the casino for the $6,500 she feels she is rightfully owed.
Although Katrina must be feeling pretty bad about having her winnings snatched from before her very eyes, perhaps it's a good thing after all. She should probably check out these five people whose lives were ruined after winning the lottery.
