Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the past few months, you’ll know that McDonald’s America have been busy launching bottles of their Big Mac special sauce on grocery shelves across the US. But what if you’re the kind of person who always goes for the Filet-O-Fish? Or would always choose a McChicken sandwich over a Big Mac?
Well, it looks like chicken and fish fans are in luck, because McDonald’s Canada have just announced that they’re about to start selling bottles of sauce from all three of McDonald’s signature sandwiches: the Big Mac, the McChicken, and the Filet-O-Fish.
Rumors started swirling after food blogger Diana Chan posted the following photo on Instagram, which she snapped at the Grocery & Specialty Food West Convention at the Vancouver Convention Centre.
Looks like @mcdonaldscanada Big Mac sauce, McChicken sauce and fish o filet sauce are coming to store shelves very soon! I am so excited to see this today at the Grocery and Specialty Food West Show. #gsfshow2017 #groceryshowcasewest #groceryshowcase #yvr #yvrfoodie #yvrfood #yvreats #yvreat #nom #instafood #food #foodie #foods #foodstagram #foodblogger #foodphotography #foodpics #foodpic #huffposttaste #gastropost #vancityhype #teamchomp #ypdine #gsfshow17 #bigmacsauce #filetofishsauce #mcchickensauce
After Chan’s enlightening Instagram post, it appeared the proverbial cat was out of the bag. Just one day later, McDonald’s Canada took to Instagram to confirm the bottles were set for release on Canadian grocery shelves at some time in spring 2017.
McDonald’s spokesperson Adam Grachnik said in a statement: “With this launch, Canadians will now be able to experience the world famous sauces they love at home. We look forward to sharing more details soon.”
The fast food giant has always been rather secretive about their coveted sauce recipes, but since the sauces have gone into the grocery store, they’ve been forced to release the ingredients for all to see. The Big Mac sauce, for example, contains a mouthwatering combination of the following:
“Soybean Oil (Antioxidant (330)), Water, Relish [ Pickles, High Fructose Corn Syrup, Sugar, Distilled Vinegar, Preservative (202), Thickener (415), Flavourings], Mustard [Water, Distilled Vinegar, Mustard Seed, Salt, Sugar, Colours (150d, 100), Spice], Salted Egg Yolks, Distilled Vinegar, Onion, Thickeners (1442, 415, 405), Spices, Sugar, Salt, Hydrolysed Protein (Corn Gluten, Soy, Wheat Gluten), Preservative (211), Colours (160c, 150d, 100), Emulsifier (433), Garlic, Antioxidant (385).”
Mmm, I know hydrolysed protein and thickeners 1441, 415, 405 are exactly the kind of thing my own mother used to cook with back in the day. Not.
Ingredient snobbery aside, however, I’m genuinely excited to give these sauces a try. There’s no word on when they’ll be available in the US, but if the original Big Mac sauce trial is anything to go by, I’m willing to bet it’ll be some time in the very near future. In the meantime, has anyone got a spare ticket to Canada going cheap?
