This Is What Cher Eats In A Day To Stay Looking Impossibly Youthful At 72

There are a select few musicians out there who, despite being senior citizens, have retained the youthful appearances they had when they were first thrust into the limelight. While the Rolling Stones might look like they are, well, a stone's throw away from the grave, Cher barely looks a day over 40, if that, despite the fact that the Goddess of Pop is now 72 years old.

So how exactly has she done it? Is she a plastic surgery addict? Or is there more to her youthful appearance than multiple botox injections and fillers? In an interview with Hello! magazine last year, the then 71-year-old explained the key role which exercise and diet have played in keeping her young, revealing that despite her age, she could still plank for five minutes.

Then, on the subject of diet, the songstress revealed that she predominately is a vegetarian, saying, "I don't like meat and so most of the things that I like are healthy for you".

Cher then added that she rarely consumes alcohol or smokes and she never takes drugs.

Here, Cher explains how taking care of her body as a young woman has helped her to stay youthful looking: 

"There are things I don't like that are unhealthy, like drugs and drinking, so I never got into them to begin with. I smoked cigarettes for a while and I'd have done drugs had I liked them, but they didn't agree with me. I'll only drink three of four times a year too."

The singer said that over time she was able to work out the perfect diet for her by learning how her body reacts to different foods.

"Dairy products are not good for us. I weaned myself from whole milk to nonfat milk - if I'm having milk at all. I think cheese is one of the worst things for the body. It doesn't digest well, and most cheeses are too high in fat and cholesterol."

However, the 'Believe' singer has been known to indulge while filming movies, so there's hope if you're prone to it too.

"I have had some bad binges while making movies. At the end of The Witches of Eastwick, Michelle Pfeiffer, Susan Sarandon and I really went crazy. We'd go from one of our trailers to the other stuffing ourselves with Pepperidge Farm Cheddar Cheese Goldfish, M&Ms, Cokes and Hershey's Kisses. Then Michelle and I found out we could microwave sweet potatoes in four minutes, and that changed our entire lives. We lived on sweet potatoes, baked potatoes and Caesar salads."

So what on Earth does Cher eat now that she's an older woman?

"I've been concentrating on eating the foods that Robert [Haas, her co-author] has stressed as being terrific: brown rice (not white rice), legumes - lentils, pinto, navy, lima and kidney beans - vegetables, pastas, fruit."

"Pastas give me a lot of energy, and so do fruits like bananas, papaya and nectarines, because they have a lot of sugar but it isn't refined."

Cher has admitted to having a number of cosmetic procedures including a rhinoplasty, breast augmentation, a facelift, and dental surgery. In addition to this, people have speculated that she's had other work done too, but none of it has been confirmed.

As we all know, however, cosmetic procedures can only do so much for a person's appearance and on top of Cher's diet and regular planking, she revealed in a 2010 interview with E! News that she was also learning how to surf.

"When I was young I was a tomboy. I played sports... And I'm learning to surf right now. I like that kind of stuff, thank God."

But this still begs the question, how often does Cher hit the gym? After all, surfing just once a year won't do much for anyone.

"I exercise about five times a week because it's something I've always done and I just enjoy it," she told Hello!

So, if you're an older person looking to keep your looks for longer, or a younger one who's simply planning ahead, you might want to take a leaf out of Cher's book when it comes to your diet and exercise regime as it's hard to deny that she looks absolutely incredible for a 72-year-old. Although, admittedly, getting numerous cosmetic procedures definitely isn't for everyone!
