I know it’s cold out there but why should that ever stop you from enjoying some ice cream? The creamy dairy treat is just as good, if not better in the cold depths of winter as it is at the peak of summer. But what if I told you it could be healthy too?
You heard correctly, there could be a chance that ice cream could actually be good for you (health wise as well as spiritually). No longer will you have to justify treating yourself after a workout, as the “treat” won’t be unhealthy at all. Now that sounds like a world I want to live in.
Does it still sound too good to be true? No worries, just take a look at what the Rebel Creamery are doing. The company claims to have manufactured a product that answers all dieters’ prayers – by helping your body burn fat while you eat dessert.
Low-carb fanatics have taken on the challenge of creating carb-free comfort food before, but never with ice cream. Rebel Creamery is the very first high-fat, low-sugar ice cream and people are getting pretty excited about it (and by people, I mean me).
Each half-cup serving has less than 3 grams of net carbs, with zero added sugar. It also contains 60-91 grams of dietary fat – a range that rivals and even beats the fat content of regular, non-diet ice cream.
Now, this is all well and good, but the sugar and fat content of “diet ice cream” has been debated for years. If you ask proponents of the ketogenic diet, fat consumption isn’t the problem. It’s carbs. And Rebel Creamery ice cream has virtually none.
The ketogenic diet is based on the idea that you can force your body into ketosis – a state where you can release ketones to burn fat for fuel – and therefore lose weight relatively healthily. In order to achieve ketosis, you have to eat very few carbohydrates per day.
Most keto dieters set their carb limit to 15 grams a day, which would take just one half of a large banana to exceed. Sounds dreadful right? Imagine only being able to get your carbs from half of something you didn’t even know was carbs. You could eat your banana, or you could eat five servings of Rebel Creamery ice cream and remain keto-compliant. I know what I would pick.
Trying to emulate the success of Halo Top, the entrepreneurs developed the idea after hearing complaints from keto dieters. They criticized Halo Top for having added sugar and ingredients like flour, molasses and corn syrup (kryptonite for keto dieters).
The fat-fueled keto crowd has rallied behind Rebel Creamery and the startup has already more than doubled its crowd-funding target of $25,000(£18,612), receiving $55,390 (£41,237).
The first four flavors available after the company’s launch will be vanilla bean, chocolate, peanut butter fudge, and cookie dough. And the team claim that these flavors “mirror real, traditional ice cream in creaminess and texture.” They hope that the rich nature of their ice creams will supply dieters (keto-dieters and others alike) with a less watery and more satisfying alternative to typical ice cream.
While it probably won’t help you lose fat all by itself, Rebel Creamery ice cream is a great way to help you stay on track with your health goals. At least now you have something else to look forward to after you’ve been having chicken breast and veggies since forever.
