Hello Kitty has, somehow, gathered a cult following over the last 15 years or so. I reckon it’s a nostalgia trip for many, since we all grew up with the TV show that brought Kitty her fame. Now, Kitty’s branched out into the culinary world, and launched a Hello Kitty cafe.
Hello Kitty have had plenty of pop-up cafes over the years, and every one has been a resounding success. Last year, a Hello Kitty pop-up cafe appeared in Orange County, Florida, and was absolutely adorable. Now, they’ve launched a permanent Hello Kitty cafe in California, and it looks exactly as you’d expect. Full of sweet treats and Hello Kitty merchandise, the ubiquitous Hello Kitty logo is emblazoned in a neon sign.
The cafe offers a variety of pies, tarts, cookies, pastries and cakes, as well as hot and cold beverages. Apparently, there are plans to include seasonal food when the time comes. Does this mean we may see Hello Kitty themed ice-cream? I’m loving the latte art on the hot drinks, let me tell you.
According to Eater LA, the most popular items are the birthday cake, Mamma’s apple pie, and the Hello Kitty Pocket Pie. Their favorite is the Hello Kitty Pocket Pie, a strawberry-flavoured pop-tart in the shape of Kitty’s face. The sweet treat has a strawberry filling, which “has a tangy, tart taste and is topped with some icing and sprinkles”. Sounds delightful.
You’ll have to be prepared to wait in line, however. Apparently, you may be waiting for at least an hour to get your paws on a Hello Kitty cake, as the cafe is proving to be very popular. On its opening day, fans queued for up to six hours before the store opened its doors.
According to Eater LA, the cafe will be running throughout the rest of 2017, so you’ve got plenty of time to save up for your plane or train ticket. You can find the cafe at Westfield Santa Anita Mall at 400 South Baldwin Avenue in Arcadia, across from Kiehl’s.
The Hello Kitty Cafe will be open Monday to Thursday 11 a.m. to 9 p.m, Friday from 11 am to 10 pm, Saturday from 10 am to 10 pm, and Sunday from 10 am to 9 pm. This is one of the high points of 2017 so far, I reckon.
