Beyoncé is pretty awesome. Not only is she one of the most talented pop artists of her generation, but she’s also an expectant mother to two baby Beyoncé twins. Oh, and she’s cool enough to be immortalised as a giant cheese sculpture. Yes, you heard me correctly. A giant sculpture made entirely out of cheddar cheese.
Sculptor David Bradley teamed up with London ad agency The Robin Collective and veteran food sculptor Jacqui Kelly in order to create the brilliant likeness, which was styled from Beyoncé’s record-breaking pregnancy announcement Instagram post. Bradley entered the sculpture in the Cheese Carving Championship as part of London’s East Village Cheese and Wine festival.
Robin Collective creative director Brandy Klingelpuss told CNN: “A lot of cheese puns floated around, and Brie-oncé was the one everyone liked the most. We talked about putting Babybel in the stomach, but it never actually happened.”
Despite the brie-lliant name, the sculpture is actually made from cheddar cheese. Considering brie is a less-than-solid cheese, this makes a hell of a lot of sense. No one wants a melted cheese Beyoncé making a mess all over the carpet.
The sculpture was displayed at London’s East Village Cheese and Wine festival over the weekend to rapturous applause. Now, I don’t know about you, but I’m rooting for this sculpture to become part of a Madame Tussauds-style cheese museum. Why has no one created that yet?!
