If there’s one thing fries from McDonald’s are made for, it’s the beautiful red nectar that is Heinz tomato ketchup. I’ve been so inclined to not eat McDonald’s if I can’t find ketchup. Yes, there’s sweet chilli and barbecue, but it’s just not the same as ketchup.
Its sweet tomatoey goodness is the perfect accompaniment to the crisp, salty fries. It’s a match made in heaven. Add a milkshake or McFlurry, maybe a Big Mac or two, and you’re really in for a good time.
That isn’t to say there isn’t any trouble in paradise, however. I think everyone can agree that McDonald’s could be a little less stingy with the sauces and do more to make sure that the McFlurry machine isn’t always broken. Let’s tackle one problem at a time, though, and talk about sauce. Because frankly, one little container of the stuff is never enough. And why is there no mayonnaise ever?
The more you think about it, the more you realize just how desperately everyone needs mayo in their McDonald’s order outside the chicken burger selection. Just imagine being able to dip your food into both ketchup and mayo. For some reason, McDonald’s never have the opportunity.
A recent article, however, gave us insight into the reasoning behind McDonald’s, and why they don’t serve mayonnaise. In an interview with Cosmopolitan, McDonald’s said that not enough customers wanted the sauce to make it worthwhile. A spokesperson commented: “What we offer in our restaurants is based on customer demand. We don’t currently have any plans for mayonnaise to be made available.”
This clearly didn’t go down well, because a petition has started on change.org which is trying to make mayonnaise sachets a standard option at McDonald’s. Many other countries have access to mayo, so why don’t we? Don’t get me wrong: I don’t mind travelling to other countries to try their McDonald’s, but it’s still unfair! This petition will fight the good fight for mayo lovers across the country.
The petition, titled: “Make mayonnaise sachets/dips available in McDonald’s (because how are they not already?!)” is looking to bring the issue to attention on a large scale. The team behind the petition is called Team Mayo.
They said: “This Saturday at 4am I had the unfortunate experience of learning that McDonald’s do not in fact stock mayonnaise. At all. Ever.” They continue: “considering that last year mayonnaise overtook ketchup as the UK’s most popular choice of condiment, the most popular fast food chain appears to be really missing a trick here.”
“This petition is to lobby McDonald’s into stocking that beautiful egg-based dressing across all stores in the UK and proving to its customers once and for all that EVERYONE matters, not just the ketchup and BBQ lovers.”
They finished with “All support for this vital cause is hugely appreciated.” At the time of writing, 582 have signed the petition, and they need your help to bring mayo to the attention to the heads of McDonald’s. There really aren’t many foods that won’t be improved with a good dollop of mayo, especially McDonald’s food. The sooner this revolution happens in the UK and the US, the better.
