Jessica Biel has been a Hollywood A-list star for as long as we can remember, and along with being a tremendous actress, she’s also known for her sculpted, flawless physique. Justin Timberlake couldn’t be a luckier man.
At the 2018 Critics’ Choice Awards, where she was nominated for Best Actress in a Movie Made For TV or Limited Series, Jessica showed up in a sleeveless Oscar de la Renta dress, and it’s clear to see that she’s as beautiful as ever. I think I speak for everyone when I say: “I want to look like that.”
Whether she’s staring in one film or producing another, it takes a lot to stay at the top of the A-list game while also keeping her eating and exercise regime in check. Her personal trainer Jason Walsh, who Biel has worked with for a very long time, has also helped Emma Stone, Alison Brie and Brie Larson become fitness powerhouses. After reading this, you could become a powerhouse too. Here are some tips to get you into A-lister shape.
According to Jason, Jessica is “a very strong-willed, patient, easy student to work with — one of the nicest, best people you’ll ever meet.” It’s no surprise she’s in the shape that she is. In a recent Reddit AMA, the actress was questioned about how she stays in such great shape and her answer showed great pragmatism and discipline.
She said “I try to eat really clean… fruits and vegetables, fish, etc,” she wrote, adding: “Don’t get me wrong, I like my cheat days and I go BIG.” (Biel is just one of many celebrities like Khloe Kardashian and Lea Michele who relies on cheat days to stay sane.)
When it comes to her toddler, Silas, Biel tries to get him to eat plenty of veggies. It’s no walk in the park, but Jessica says she has a trick up her sleeve to get him to eat the nutritious food. “Hide ’em!,” she says. “I hide vegetables in eggs, quiche, stews soups, smoothies…. I hide vegetables everywhere I possibly can.”
With working out, Jason says Jessica has always trusted his methods. Whilst going back and forth between yoga and circuit training, Jason stresses functional strength training for her and all of his clients. He and Jessica do “lots of band work to strengthen the muscles around the hips,” as well as “any and every type of single-leg exercise you can think of”.
Single-leg deadlifts, single-leg hip thrusts, single-leg squats; Jason and Jessica have done it all. But why so many single-leg exercises? According to Jason, these movements “help with functionality and balance”. Plus, if you think about the movements we do every day – walking and running – these are all single-leg exercises. “Each leg works independently of each other and also together for certain moves.” See? Pragmatic and disciplined. What’s not to like?
With all of this, it’s no wonder Jessica looks so fit. To work towards a figure like Biel’s, Jason encourages everyone out there to give weightlifting a try. If you don’t land a killer part or a Justin Timberlake-esque husband, at least you have a banging body and killer fitness. Besides, isn’t that what health and fitness is all about?
