Ah, Gordon Ramsay. He's everyone's favorite foul-mouthed chef. Even if you're not a foodie, it's hard to deny that his incessant swearing and temper that's firer than an oven is entertaining. It's no wonder that his TV show Hell's Kitchen is a smash hit, even inspiring its own spin-off kids show, MasterChef Junior (swearing not included).
But Ramsay's a lot more than just a firey TV personality. He's also a seriously talented chef in his own right and his restaurants have been awarded an impressive 16 Michelin stars. And it's fair to say that he's trained with some of the best too, having worked with the likes of Marco Pierre White, Guy Savoy, and Joël Robuchon in his early culinary career.
While Ramsay's culinary talents have not only made him famous but incredibly rich (he's was ranked by Forbes as the 21st highest-earning celebrity in the world), there has been a downside to him constantly being surrounded by delicious food. Like most of us, he's been partial to overindulging and over time, this has had an impact on his waistline.
However, in January of this year, he decided that enough was enough and went on a mission to lose weight before things got out of hand, explaining to the Daily Mail that he had a very good reason for wanting to shed those extra pounds.
"Tana was not impressed with the way I was," the 51-year-old said of his wife and the mother of his four children.
"I was overweight, 18 stone. I looked like a sack of s***," Ramsay said. "I look at the pictures and think, 'How did Tana stay around?' Because Tana has got better-looking and more gorgeous. And there she is, getting in bed with a fat f***.'"
Wanting to get in shape for his wife, Ramsay then compiled a diet plan which saw him shed an impressive 50 lbs.
The celebrity chef revealed his transformation to his 4.5 million followers on Instagram, posting a topless picture of himself in lycra shorts. It was snapped before a triathlon and was captioned:
"Iron Chef to Ironman for @greatormondst #teamramsay London Triathlon can't wait ! Great way to shake off jet lag.... good luck and congrats to all athletes and a BIG THANK YOU to all the volunteers & sponsors couldn't do it with out you! [sic]".
Thanks to his diet, the chef dropped from 266 lbs stone to 216 lbs. But that begs the question, what exactly was he eating?
Explaining his new diet, the chef told the Today Show, "I'm very good now at eating five times a day, but small amounts as opposed to a big breakfast, big lunch and big dinner."
He then told TV presenters: "I have a breakfast with oatmeal, that's the first thing, and that sets me up for the rest of the day."
"So I don't really sit down and do lunch. I certainly don't sit down and eat dinner."
"There's nothing worse than eating dinner at 5:30 and then having to get up and cook for 3 hours," Ramsay continued. "So I like to keep on my toes, and eat small bits. Almost like in Hong Kong - 4 or 5 times a day, small bowls of food."
So there you have it - sometimes the key to losing weight is eating a little and often. Will you be trying out Ramsay's diet plan? One thing's for sure, with so many Michelin stars under his belt, the next time my jeans are a little too tight, I'll definitely be trying it out. After all, no one wants to hungry while on a diet and Ramsay's anything but.
