Gordon Ramsay Is Set To Go Toe-to-Toe With A Pineapple Pizza On Facebook Live

No matter how tough life can get at times, I can always rest easy in the knowledge that I can order a pizza at the click of a button. Whether you like pepperoni, anchovies or chillies, pizza is one of those universal foods that everyone can get behind, with one exception – Hawaiian pizza.

Reportedly first created by Sam Panopoulos in Ontario in 1962, it’s characterized by its bizarre topping combination of ham and pineapple in either rings or chunks. It was the most popular pizza in Australia in 1999, but society is decidedly split on the legitimacy of the Hawaiian.

One high-profile detractor is celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay, and in typically swear-y fashion, he wholeheartedly denounced the Hawaiian by declaring: “you never put pineapple on a f***ing pizza!” when he was host for the Nightly show in late March. Now, however, Gordon Ramsay is giving us the chance to make him eat humble pie… by having him chow down on a Hawaiian pizza pie.

Gordon Ramsay is one of those celebrities whose striking personal brand has overshadowed the very skills that made him famous. The 50-year-old Scotsman is one of the foremost culinary experts in the world, but you probably know him from his amusingly expletive-laden appearances on Hell’s Kitchen or Ramsay’s Kitchen Nightmares, not to mention his new show, Fox’s the F Word.

Back in March, Ramsay hosted the British variety called the Nightly Show for one week, and on the show, Ramsay was ordering pizza for the in-studio audience. Someone made the foolish decision to suggest pineapple pizza, and Ramsay reacted quite viscerally to the suggestion, even putting down the phone briefly to ask the audience member: “What the f*** are you doing?”

Now, though, Gordon Ramsay wants to give back, and he’s willing to humiliate himself on a live internet feed to do that. On his Instagram page, Ramsay posted a photo of himself grimly staring down a pineapple pizza like it was his mortal enemy, and if enough people donate to the Gordon and Tana Ramsay Foundation, which is part of Great Ormond Street (a children’s hospital in the UK), he’ll eat it on Facebook Live.

“I’ve got a proposal for YOU: if we can hit 500 donations in the next 48 hours, I will eat this f**king god-awful PINEAPPLE pizza on Facebook Live. Don’t forget, your donation also gives you the chance to be my VVIP on #thefword. So click the link in the bio or go to omaze.com/pineapple and donate NOW!”

The minimum donation is $10, and if you really want to see Gordon Ramsay begrudgingly stuff pizza down his throat on Facebook Live, the deadline to do so is 11:59 ET on July 7 (tonight!). Let’s hope that pizza is enough to bring us together for a good cause, but if that isn’t enough, you get to watch Gordon Ramsay literally eat his words live on camera. Go to his Omaze page, and get donating!
