I never knew pizza could be so divisive a topic until people starting adding weird toppings just to anger the most emotionally-charged of pizza perfectionists. I mean, someone dipped their pizza in milk and the internet collectively lost its mind.
If, on the other hand, you’re a fan of a slightly odd pizza toppings, then I’ve got just the pizza for you. Schmatz Beer Dining, found in Tokyo, Japan, has created a pizza entitled The Sakura, which incorporates both sweet and sour flavours. The base is pretty standard, incorporating a thin-crust pizza topped with three different cheeses. However, they’ve also added one key ingredient to the pizza: candy floss.
The pink cotton candy is then dissolved onto the pizza, by drizzling a ginger and honey sauce on top of it. As a result, the liquid candy floss seeps into the cheese on the pizza, creating a sweet yet cheesy pizza which the internet isn’t quite sure what to make of.
I’m really sure what to make of this pizza. I feel that it’d be a very sticky meal, what with the melted cheese and cotton candy syrup. The restaurant created the pizza to celebrate cherry blossom season, but I personally don’t know why they couldn’t just throw a party instead. I’m not sure if the world is ready for candy floss pizza.
If you’re looking to get a slice or two of this pizza, you’d better be quick, because Schmatz Beer Dining are only serving this pizza from March 27 to April 2. If you’re in the area, let me know if you decide to try out this bizarre pizza. I’m intrigued, to say the least.
