It seems as if huge burgers are the done thing nowadays - which is something that I'm sure plenty of people will agree, is great. Imagine seeing ounces upon ounces of meat stacked between perfectly melted sizzling cheese slices, plus all kinds of juice oozing out as you gently press the buns together. It sounds like a dream I don't want to wake up from.
McDonald's recently came out with the Grand Mac, a massive version of the (already) Big Mac and the cute Mac Jr (available on the Dollar Menu) to celebrate the 50th anniversary of McDonald's flagship burger's release. Now, its rivals Burger King have come up with their own supersized sandwich and, well, like the Big Mac, it has its own unique selling point. Enter the heavyweight superstar, the Bacon King.
The Bacon King is not just a clever title. It has two quarter pounder burger patties, and is topped off with eight slices of bacon. Yes, you heard me - eight slices of bacon. A whole packet of bacon on a burger.
To be fair, it looks absolutely amazing. We could sit here and debate the pros and cons of eating a whole packet of bacon, but that seems unnecessary - especially as I only care about the pros. It looks great, and I challenge you not to want one (unless you're a vegetarian, in which case you're entitled to be less interested).
On top of the burgers and bacon, it comes with cheese, ketchup, and mayo. If beef burgers aren't your thing, there is another version - the Chicken Bacon King. Just as tasty, just as regal; you're probably going to need a lot of napkins either way.
As you might imagine, there is another factor in this. You should probably not get involved with this burger if you're on a diet. The nutritional information won't make particularly happy reading if you're counting the calories. Let's just say you're going to need a lot of CrossFit to win back those calories.
Specifically, the Bacon King has a whopping 1,150 calories. That's more than half your recommended daily allowance, if you're a woman. and that's just the burger itself. With fries and a soft drink, you can add on significantly more. Unsurprisingly, it also contains a lot of fat - 79 grams, to be precise. Oh, and just the 31 grams of saturated fats, not heart stopping at all (and by that, I mean incredibly heart-stopping - don't eat more than one at a time, please).
Alasdair Murdoch, the CEO of Burger King UK, said: "We're firmly committed to delivering innovative, great-tasting food at affordable prices for all our customers. We hear how much our guests in the UK love bacon, and we hope that by introducing the Bacon King sandwich we help to satisfy that craving." It's only going to be available for a limited time, though, so you'd better stress out your nutritionist as much as you can.
