Ben and Jerry's are well-known for their ice cream endeavours, and it's a commonly-known fact that very few people will refuse a few scoops of Phish Food. There is a slight issue, however - ice cream is exclusively a dessert food. Unless, of course, you've just been through a heavy break up, when ice cream is acceptable at any hour of the day or night.
The famous ice cream company have sought to change this, and are releasing three breakfast-flavored ice creams: Fruit Loot, Frozen Flakes and Cocoa Loco. According to Ben and Jerry's, the new flavors count as a breakfast as they use a cereal-flavored milk.
The three flavors will include cereal too, with Fruit Loot having Fruit Loops (obviously), Frozen Flakes containing cornflakes and Cocoa Loco featuring coco puffs. Ben and Jerry's new venture was launched on National Cereal Day, with the makers dubbing the new flavors Cereal Splashbacks.
One of the first questions that popped into my head was: why? Should ice cream really be a breakfast option? Say you were at a hotel. Would they be part of a continental breakfast? Ben and Jerry's kindly answered my query, with their flavor guru Eric Fredette stating: "Because the sweet milk at the bottom of a cereal bowl is arguably the best part."
Ben and Jerry's are hoping for a nostalgia trip or two with their new product: "We wanted to take our flavor concepts and make people feel like a kid again, which is how we landed our Cereal Splashback flavors."
If you're an ice cream fiend, you'll be glad to know that the Cereal Splashbacks will be launching mid-March. Unfortunately, you can only find them in Ben and Jerry's Scoop Shops, rather than the frozen foods aisle at your local supermarket. Now you can live your childhood fantasies, and have ice-cream for breakfast. Take that, mom.
