9 Fast food student discounts you’ll love if you’re a broke college kid

Going to college is hard. Not only are you striking out on your own for an extended period for probably the first time, you’ll probably have to do so hundreds of miles from your family, your friends and your familiar locations. There’s classes, all-nighters and copious amounts of drinking (not until you’re 21, of course), but there’s also the small task of feeding yourself consistently.

That’s hard enough on its own; even with a decent array of cooking skills in your locker, there’ll be some days where you’re just too tired to do anything apart from ordering takeout. That’s more expensive than it sounds, but don’t worry, we got your back. Here are a few places that will recognize that as a student, you’ve got a lot going on, and will offer you tons of discounts and free stuff. Read on!

1. Burger King

On the whole, eating out at Burger King is slightly more expensive than chowing down at McDonald’s, but with this student discount, Have It Your Way for a little bit less than you usually would. Flash your student ID at your Burger King server in many locations around the country, and you’ll be able to enjoy a 10 percent discount. Nice.

2. Chick-Fil-A

When it comes to filling the stomach of a broke college student while warming their heart at the same time, there’s nothing like a good helping of Chick-Fil-A chicken nuggets. All that nugget-ing can make you pretty thirsty, can’t it? So it’s pretty handy that Chick-Fil-A will give any student a free drink to wash it all down.

3. Papa John’s

When it comes to getting food at a discounted price, there aren’t many better places than Papa John’s. I don’t think I’ve ever paid full price when ordering from something there. Now, with little more than your inherent student-ness, you can get a discount of up to 20 percent. How does that sound?

4. Subway

On its own, Subway is about the least student-friendly fast food outlet there is. Five dollars for a foot-long sandwich?! I’m not made of money, y’know. With a 10-percent student discount, though, you can turn a five-dollar sub into a four-dollar sub, and that’s got to count for something.

5. Pizza Hut

Not to be outdone by their pizza rivals, Pizza Hut will match your student discount from Papa John’s and take off as much as 20 percent from the price! There: you literally do not have an excuse for paying full price when ordering pizza.

6. McDonald’s

Of all the restaurants featured so far on this list, it’s fair to say that McDonald’s is probably the best value for money, all while remaining as delicious as can possibly be. Why not make your McDonald’s experience go a little bit further, though, with a 10 percent discount or a free drink? I don’t know about you, but I’m Lovin’ That…

7. Dairy Queen

But let’s say, my broke student friends, that you’re not looking for vital nourishment, but a nice treat instead after a good grade or something. That’s when you head over to Dairy Queen for some delicious ice cream, and at 10 percent, who could say no?

8. Chipotle

While McDonald’s is probably the best-value fast food on this list, I would go as far as saying Chipotle is probably the furthest thing away from fast food on here. While still being delicious, of course. Guac will still set you back one or two dollars, but you can wash that bitter taste out of your mouth with a nice free drink, courtesy of your student discount.

9. Dunkin’ Donuts

Let’s end this list with a nice sweet treat. What better place to go to satisfy that sugar craving than Dunkin’ Donuts? You’ll probably leave college with heaps of student debt, but at least you’ll be able to say you had 10 percent off at Dunkin Donuts. That’s, uh, got to count for something…  right? Right?

Well, folks, there you have it: plenty of food to fill you up, all at slightly discounted prices. It might not be free food, but it might just be the difference between having a semi-functional adult diet, and eating cereal out of the box like some kind of feral human. And nobody wants to be that guy.
