With over 36,000 McDonald’s across the globe, it’s no surprise that the menu may vary a bit from one location to another. While menu classics like the Big Mac, McNuggets, and classic fries are typically available everywhere, some locations offer items that are specific to their country, meaning that they can’t be found anywhere else… including the states.
Sorry, Americans, but if you have a hankering for any of the following items, then you’re going to have to pack your suitcases. And if we’re being honest, some of these look so good they they might be worth the plane trip …
1. Chicken McDo with Spaghetti in the Philippines
McDonald’s isn’t usually associated with Italian food, but in the Philippines they are serving up the McDo, a piece of fried chicken and spaghetti with a “signature sauce” and ground beef, every day.
2. Truffle Mayo and Parmesan Loaded Fries in Australia
These seem all-too fancy for McDonald’s, but in Australia you can get these luxurious fries in any Macca’s (Australian slang for McDonald’s) you find.
3. Tamago Burger in Japan
While McDonald’s Japan has a whole line of Tamago burgers, or burgers topped with a fried egg, this one looks extra delicious with cheese and a teriyaki sauce.
4. Rolls with Cottage Cheese, Raisins, and Dried Apricots in Russia
These pancake-like rolls, filled with cottage cheese and dried fruit, hardly even resemble a McDonald’s breakfast food item.
5. Ham n’ Egg Twisty Pasta in Japan
This pasta is served in a chicken broth with vegetables and a ham patty, and topped off with a fried egg … making it a confusing combo of breakfast-and-dinner that we’d certainly never expect from McDonald’s.
6. Ebi Filet-O in Japan
This sandwich is made of panko-battered shrimp, mayo-based shrimp sauce, and lettuce, and is a far cry from the familiar cheeseburger.
7. Chili Cheese Tops in Denmark
Okay, these fried balls of melty cheese and chopped chillies look absolutely delicious and make us want to move to Denmark ASAP.
8. Halloumi Muffin in Kuwait
This breakfast sandwich includes grilled Halloumi, a cheese made of goat and sheep milk, topped with lettuce, tomato, and olive paste.
9. Chicken Maharaja Mac in India
This spicy twist on a Big Mac has two grilled chicken patties, cheddar cheese, onions, tomatoes, jalapeños, and habanero sauce.
10. Ham Croquettes in Spain
The fact that these creamy ham croquettes are only available in Spain is not too surprising, as they represent a typical tapas dish.
11. Cheddar McMelt in Brazil
This beef patty is topped with cheddar cheese, onions, and shoyu sauce and served on a dark sesame bun, and it looks absolutely delicious.
12. Veg Supreme McMuffin in India
McDonald’s India has many vegetarian options, including this patty (made mostly from spinach and corn) served on English muffin with onions, tomatoes, and mint mayo.
13. Passion Fruit and Cream Cheese Pie in Russia
These pies somewhat resemble the familiar apple pies McDonald’s offers in America, but this time with a passion fruit and cream cheese filling
14. Mexican Mac Royal in… Israel?
This cheese-less burger comes with guacamole and “Mac Royale” sauce, flaunting a Mexican flavor that we would not have expected to see in Israel.
15. Jalapeño Chicken Triple Burger in South Africa
These three chicken patties are stacked high and smothered in a jalapeño sauce, making us wonder why it isn’t available in the states, because it looks like it would be right up America’s alley.
Hopefully some of the tastier items on these international menus make their way to McDonald’s in the U.S. soon. But, until then, we’ll just keep eating 20-packs of McNuggets that still satisfy us like no other food in the world could.
