While vegetarians and vegans still face a lot of mockery from proud meat-eaters for some reason, it is definitely a life choice that has spread across the world in recent years. There was a point where vegetarians needed to be completely in the know when it came to sourcing their meals, while vegans had a complete nightmare sorting their food out.
Now, however, you can find vegan options (or even full restaurants) all over cities, whether it be on the high street or in your local supermarket. But that doesn't mean that every vegan is telling you about it, even the ones in the spotlight. There are plenty of celebrities that have indulged in a vegan diet and found themselves happy with the result, such as those collected in the list below:
1. Jenna Dewan Tatum
Jenna hasn't eaten meat since she was 11, and has spoken out about how beneficial going vegan was for her. In an interview with the Los Angeles Times, she said, "I certainly encourage veganism, not just for our health, but for the environment and also for the ethical and moral reasons".
2. Jessica Chastain
The actres told W that she went vegan after noticing she had cholesterol problems and low energy. After just two weeks, she said she "had more energy than I've ever had in my life," adding that "being vegan was not anything I ever wanted to be. I just really was listening to what my body was telling me."
3. Kate Mara
"To me it's so obvious: there's a life behind the eyes," Mara, whose sister Rooney is also vegan, told The Georgia Straight last year. "That's one of the reasons I'm a vegan".
4. Venus Williams
The tennis champ made the switch after being diagnosed with an autoimmune disorder. "Once I started I fell in love with the concept of fueling your body in the best way possible," she told Health in 2017. "Not only does it help me on the court, but I feel like I'm doing the right thing for me. It definitely changed my whole life."
5. Miley Cyrus
Miley is so committed to the cause, she has a symbol for veganism tattooed on her body. When she got the tattoo, she shared a photo of it on Instagram and wrote, "Vegan for life!"
The singer and all-round goddess (did you see her Coachella performance!?) commits to a "vegan challenge" for each big event and performance, and has even encouraged her fans to join her on the diet recently.
7. Maggie Q
The Nikita actress revealed that the environmental element of veganism is important for her. "When I'm eating, I'm not hurting the planet," she told PETA. "I'm not hurting other people on the planet, I'm not hurting other animals."
8. Alicia Silverstone
The actress went vegan a few years after filming Clueless, and hasn't regretted it one bit. "I used to have all those white marks on my nails and they were very brittle, and now they're so strong I cannot bend them," she told Oprah. "My eyes got really white and I feel like I look less puffy."
9. Danielle Brooks
The Orange Is The New Black star went vegan last year, and found it a big change to her life. Appearing on The Chew, she said that her upbringing meant that she never learned "how to eat properly, how food is fuel. So this is my way of teaching myself how to eat properly, how to eat to live, I guess".
10. Madelaine Petsch
Petsch told People magazine that she's only eaten "plant-based" food her entire life. "Being vegan keeps my body fueled and running smoothly," she explained.
It appears that when it comes to going vegan, the ethical side of things is only a part of why people make the big change. Some have found they even come out much healthier than before, so it may be looking into if you're curious about the world of veganism.
